Mobbs Memorial Trust Enables Access to Virtual Services
More members of the Chilterns MS Centre are now able to access the charity’s virtual services, workshops and meetings thanks to a grant from the Mobbs Memorial Trust.
The Trust’s support enables the charity to purchase a small number of tablets. These will allow members to get online and access some of the virtual exercise classes, physiotherapy sessions, occupational therapy workshops and the Centre’s YouTube channel for additional exercise and physiotherapy classes.
During the pandemic, the Centre has had to adapt and embrace digital technology to keep supporting some of our 550 members who are living with multiple sclerosis. Many were completely isolated from family and friends, and many lost access to their regular therapy and exercise. Not only did this mean their physical wellbeing suffered, but also their mental health did too.
The Centre quickly started exercise classes at home via Zoom, as well as physiotherapy sessions, physical assessments, counselling and occupational therapy support by video and phone. But some people did not have the right technology at home to be able to take part in many of these activities. And so the Centre wanted to purchase some tablets to allow those without the means to be able to reconnect with the therapists and their friends at the Centre, as well as take part in the classes and workshops. This will mean a lot to those that don’t currently access these virtual services. Although they are offered on a loan basis, it enables those who have not used them before to try them out, get comfortable with the technology before having to go through the expense of having to purchase their own.
Nothing beats face-to-face conversations but in these difficult times, it is good to be able to connect to family and friends at any time, even virtually. This grant will now enable more of our members to do this.
