Exercise Classes (from January 2025)
WHAT ARE EXERCISE CLASSES?
Exercise is good for everyone and we encourage anyone with a neurological condition to increase the amount of exercise they do, even if it’s just by a small amount each week. Even a few minutes of activity each day can have a very positive impact on your symptoms.
Our classes are a great introduction to the Centre for those who may not want or need to have one-to-one treatment or additional support at this time. Our exercise therapists understand how the body can be affected by neurological conditions and the classes are tailored to suit different abilities and symptoms.
Types of Classes
Our two main classes are run every week day to suit people of different ability levels and these are the General Exercise Class and the PD Power Class. In addition ton these we have a weekly Basic Core Class, Advanced Core Class and Standing Balance Class.
General Exercise Class
This class is aimed at members of all abilities, this class will help build strength in the body and encourage mobility in limbs. The class will range from cardio exercises, strength work all the way through to targeting specific movements in limbs. Every class is different and never the same exercises. Be ready for your whole body to be worked.
The class is held every week day at 10am. You can access it in-person at the Centre or online via Zoom.
PD Power Class
PD Power is a moderate-intensity exercise programme developed for people with Parkinson’s that focuses on improving balance, coordination, strength, and posture. The class will help people with Parkinson’s modify the progression of the disease by changing their movement, thinking, and effort.
The class is held every week day during term-time at 11am. This class is only for those With Parkinson’s and you can only access it in-person at the Centre.
Basic Core Class
Our Basic Core Class is an introduction of how to exercise your core muscles to promote improved sitting and standing balance and posture. It is for anyone who is able to sit independently and unsupported, able to move independently from sitting to lying to sitting on a plinth, able to stand independently with or without support of a walking aid, or able to walk independently with or without aid into session.
The class will run as part of a six week block and you will not be able to book on to two consecutive blocks.
The class is held every Wednesday during term-time at 1pm. You can only access it in-person at the Centre.
Advanced Core Class
Our Advanced Core Class is for those who have completed basic core class and looks at how to how to challenge your core muscles further and work harder. It is for anyone who is able to get on/off floor independently, able to exercise in a variety of positions e.g. laying on back/front/side, on hands and knees, or in high kneeling etc.
The class will run as part of a six week block and you will not be able to book on to two consecutive blocks.
The class is held every Wednesday during term-time at 1pm. You can only access it in-person at the Centre, or online via Zoom.
Standing Balance Class
Our Standing Balance Class is designed for members who are able to stand and walk but need help with their balance. In this class, we will strengthen muscles and limbs key to successful and safe standing.
The class will run as part of a six week block and you will not be able to book on to two consecutive blocks.
The class is held every Thursday during term-time at 9am. You can only access it in-person at the Centre.

HOW COULD EXERCISE CLASSES BENEFIT ME?
According to NICE (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence), remaining physically active can improve mobility and fatigue. It can also help to reduce the secondary complications of inactivity, such as pressure sores, and help people with neurological conditions to regain or maintain their strength.
