Supporting the Centre through Make a Will Month
Catherine Golds, member of the Centre and former Chair of Trustees, writes about Make a Will Month and why planning to leave a legacy to the Centre is important to her.
Supporting the Chilterns Neuro Centre through their Make a Will Month and leaving a lasting legacy was really important to me.
Having worked at RAF Halton early in my career, I knew of the Chilterns MS Centre, as it was called then, but who thinks they will ever need the support of such a charity? I was so shocked when I was diagnosed with MS in my late 30’s. I plucked up the courage to get in touch with the Centre soon after I heard the news that devastated my family and I.
Quite simply it changed my life. The support I received in those first few months after diagnosis, then over many years and the community at the Centre helped me to understand, cope and live with my diagnosis and its symptoms and impact on my life.
I remember, at the time, a neighbour with early onset Parkinson’s remarking how fortunate we were to have such an outstanding facility on our doorstep and if only they could provide support for other neurological conditions too.
And now they do. The Chilterns Neuro Centre has grown and expanded so much since those earlier days when I joined, into the incredible place it is today.
Supporting hundreds of people with life-changing conditions, the type of support that just isn’t available elsewhere, and within a safe, supportive community of people which just adds an extra level of comfort and reassurance.
So when I came to write my Will, not only did I take advantage of ‘Make a Will Month’ and received a very professional service – via Zoom as I am no longer local – but I chose to leave a gift in my Will to them.
I know it takes £1.2 million each year for this charity to continue their crucial work, and I know anything I can leave them will make a difference to the lives of others in the way they made a difference to mine for so many years.
It’s so important to have a Will so your loved ones have one less thing to cope with, and what could be more fulfilling than leaving a gift to a charity that touches the lives of so many.
I would certainly recommend the Centre’s Make a Will Month as it raises vital funds for the charity and, if you can, go one step further and leave a lasting legacy. There are so many deserving charities but I know first hand how this local charity makes a significant positive impact, improving the physical, emotional and mental health of those with neurological conditions, helping them to lead more fulfilling lives. It’s a small gesture but with a big impact.
During Make a Will Month, we have partnered with four local solicitors who have all agreed to waive their fees in lieu of a donation to the Centre.
