COUNSELLING
Neurological conditions can have a significant impact on your emotional wellbeing, affecting your ability to feel, think and behave as you wish. This can detract from your ability to cope with day-to-day living, taking part in activities, socialising and enjoying life generally. This can be true for both people with the condition and also for their close family members.
Counselling is available in person, by telephone and video call for both members and their families, with our specialist clinical counsellor.
The format of the sessions is flexible because it initially provides an empathetic listening ear. Future sessions are then tailored to meet the needs of what you wish to achieve and how you prefer to work. Using a range of techniques the counselling is aimed to help you improve your emotional wellbeing and general outlook on life.
HOW COULD COUNSELLING BENEFIT ME OR MY FAMILY?
If you or your family members are finding it hard to deal with the effects that neurological conditions can have, counselling may help to improve your emotional wellbeing. Sometimes just talking through your worries can help you to understand and work through them, and other times you may need more strategies and support. Often we can suggest other therapies and services that you were unaware of which can also help you.
HOW TO ACCESS COUNSELLING?
A requirement for counselling will usually be identified in your initial and review assessments, but members and carer members can also self-refer at any time if you feel you are struggling to manage. Based on the referral our administration team will get in touch to offer an assessment appointment to identify your goals and treatment plan. Depending on your goals you may be offered a course of counselling or signposted to other related emotional wellbeing services.
