What are therapeutic workshops?

Our series of short therapeutic workshops at the Chilterns Neuro Centre help provide targeted, manageable interventions to improve overall wellbeing and offer a solid foundation for sustainable health improvements. These courses are particularly effective because they empower individuals, enabling them to integrate strategies into their daily lives to help make improvements.

By concentrating on practical and achievable milestones, they help people experience quick wins, boosting their motivation and confidence. Our courses not only improve physical health but also foster a sense of accomplishment and control, encouraging long-term adherence to healthy habits.

We have three workshops taking place during in the first half-term and these are our Breath Support Workshop, Weight Management and Sleep. More information on these courses, including dates and how to book your place, can be found below.

Breath Support Workshop

When the muscles and joints that work our breathing mechanisms become weak or stiff, the lungs become less efficient. This means you may become short of breath, come more easily tired when carrying out everyday tasks. Some people find it hard to cough strongly enough to clear phlegm, which can develop into a chest infection. Others may have difficulty generating enough volume to speak clearly. All of these functions rely on good breath capacity/support.

The workshop will cover:

  • Basic anatomy of your breathing mechanisms
  • How to monitor your breathing capacity
  • Exercises to increase breath capacity, focusing on which ones to do and when
  • When to ask for further help

The format will be three relaxed sessions (you must attend all three) where we will come up with practical ways to achieve realistic changes. There will be a maximum number of 12 attendees and you may attend with a family member too.

  • Tuesday 7 January 2025 | 1-2.30pm
  • Tuesday 21 January 2025 | 1-2.30pm
  • Tuesday 4 February 2025 | 1-2.30pm

  • Review of goals and portions, identification of barriers to change. Monitoring progress.
  • Cost benefit analysis, overcoming difficult times.
